Learn More About our Intern
Amore Burch is a fourth-year college student at Virginia Tech, majoring in Public Health with a minor in Political Science. She merges her passion for the clinical aspects of health with an understanding of the structural and policy factors that shape access and outcomes.
Through her undergraduate studies, she has developed a clear vision to contribute to a healthcare system that is not only equal but truly equitable for both patients and providers. This passion has led her to explore health policy and the ways in which legislation and administration can eliminate disparities and improve care for all Americans. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she plans to pursue a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and/or Administration.
Q&A Highlights with Amore:
-
One thing that inspired me to intern at Social Impact Studios or see if there were any internship opportunities available was my conversation with Andrea,CEO. Hearing about her journey into the public health field really resonated with me, as it had some similarities to how I became interested in public health. After learning more about the company and never hearing about the intersection of public health and consulting until she explained what Social Impact Studios does, then it allowed me to be even more interested and wanting to get involved.Furthermore, when it comes to health policy, I was always passionate about being in the healthcare space but I wanted to couple my love for healthcare while hopefully evoking change. I got into healthcare policy to not only make a system that is equal, but truly equitable for everyone from the patients to the physicians.

Advice I would give to incoming Social Impact Studios interns is to be very transparent about your interests and future goals. The Social Impact team is excellent at tailoring the internship experience to align with your passions and career goals. Please make sure that you are open and communicative which will not only help but also ensure you have a well-rounded experience and gain the most value and knowledge from your time working with the team.

One important lesson I will carry into my future career from my time at Social Impact Studios is the value of clear and consistent communication with supervisors especially in a remote work environment. I initially thought I was communicating sufficiently, but I realized there were areas where I fell short. Even when I mentally acknowledged tasks and completed them, I wasn’t always verbalizing or documenting my progress. This experience taught me that it’s better to over-communicate than under-communicate, to ensure alignment and avoid misunderstandings and allow me to put about better polished and refined work.

If I were to describe my experience at Social Impact Studio it would be Amazing, Beneficial, and Individualistic.
